Yoga Biomechanics - 3 Mini Courses
Each mini Course:
- Builds upon the previous one helping you grow your working knowledge of basic biomechanical principles to enhance your experience and teaching of yoga.
- Includes bitesize, simplified techniques for immediate application both on and off the mat.
Our Aim for You
This exciting new Series is brought to you by Hayley Winter and the team at the Institute of Yoga Sports Science® (YSS).
Our aim is to share Yoga Sports Science's successful strategies to help energize your teaching.
In this Series, you will receive:
- Tips on cueing
- Body reading techniques
- Movement strategies in yoga sequencing to help you feel confident as you continue to grow your yoga teaching skills.
You will learn:
- Movement mechanics and movement potential for any age and ability
- How to improve your body reading and cueing skills.
- How to spot the signs of structural imbalances that can lead to injury.
You will become:
- Energized and empowered to improve postural preparation for asanas - creating a richer experience for students.
- Knowledgeable in how to positively apply the external forces of gravity, ground reaction force and friction within a yoga sequence, something that teacher trainings tend not to address leaving teachers unaware of the power of their impact.
Our aim is to help yoga teachers keep their yoga momentum moving forwards/ direction and deepening / magnitude of knowledge
Topics Covered in Our 3 Mini Courses
Course # 1: Gravity, Ground Reaction Force & Friction
An exploration of the External Forces of Gravity, Ground Reaction Force and Friction. Bitesized and simplified techniques helping you apply these forces to enhance your experience and teaching of yoga. As teachers it is important to understand these 3 forces and how to apply them - when we don’t, it leaves our yoga teaching with an important missing piece to the postural puzzle.
Course # 2: Patterns, Preparation & Progressing Loads
Explore why it’s essential for yoga teachers to understand the nature of internal loads in asana (postures). Learn how habits and overloading patterns can lead to injury. Learn simple techniques to help progress loads for postural preparation and adaptation.
Course # 3: Force, Flow & Postural Power
Advance your knowledge of internal loads by exploring how to access greater force and stability, with fluid strength by switching on your postural power. Learn how to work with anatomical planes of movement to enhance your body reading and cueing skills.

I'm in! I want access to all 3 Courses! π€Έπ»ββοΈOur 4 pillars that anchor your learning
Each Course includes 4 Units with bitesize videos bringing biomechanical principles to life. Each Course builds on the previous topic to enhance and advance your knowledge.
Science
Each Course starts with the Science behind the topic. We highlight why it matters for yoga teachers to have an understanding and working knowledge of biomechanics to β‘οΈenergize, enhance and empower your teaching.
Awareness
Next we explore Awareness of the topic to help you develop greater insight by subtly exploring the elements of π§ neuroscience and proprioception with practical techniques for you and your students.
Embody
After Awareness we bring you the 'find it and feel it phase' π where you learn different tips and techniques to embody the theory so you can help your students embody the benefits too.
Apply
At the end of each Course we bring all the elements together by applying the theory and principles into a yoga sequence π§π½βοΈ for you to practice and share the theme with your students.
