Preparing Yourself & Your Students for an Online Session

Preparing your students for an online yoga session

We have provided you with a list of items to prepare your students for the online yoga session to help create an environment that makes the transition to web teaching more effective. You may come up with other ideas as well. Feel free to add them to list and share them with us in the Online Yoga Teaching Resource

Props

  • Yoga Mat - large beach or bath towel (** anything other than a non-slip mat could make you slip)
  • Yoga Block(s) - home items such as chairs, stools, books and boxes can be used.
  • Yoga straps and/or theraband - towels and ropes (** two mens ties tied together)
  • Water
  • Tissues
  • Wireless headset if available

Preparing the space

  • When possible, find a quiet open space
  • Good lighting
  • Turn cell phones off (unless using for the session then silence them)
  • Give a few minutes for Zoom download if needed the first time using Zoom

Injuries

  • Have your students check in with you before the session if an injury has occurred since their last yoga session. Please ask your students to let you know if they have a cold or any COVID-19 symptoms as discussed by Hayley Winter and Annelize Ferreira in the webinar.
